GIVING Peace with a Compelling Vision
Leadership and Vision
John Kotter defines a vision as “a picture of the future with some implicit or explicit commentary on why people should strive to create that future.”
Whether you’re a leader for your organization, in your community, or even a leader among your peers, a compelling vision has the power to GIVE peace to those around you.
A compelling vision:
-Clarifies the general direction for the change you or your team have set out to make
-Motivates people to act, even if it’s painfully early; they’re compelled to take action
-Coordinates the actions of multiple people, uniting them together in the process
When a leader has the courage to not only envision a brighter future, but also communicates a compelling vision to their teams, peers, or communities:
-People experience less conflict
-People are filled up with hope for a future they can be a part of creating
-Groups of people transform into teams of people, striving for common goals together
“Great things in business are never done by one person. They’re done by a team of people.”
~ Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple
